Help Prevent Child Abuse
The Child Abuse Prevention Council of Shiawassee County is proud to present annual public awareness events to help eliminate child abuse and neglect. This year's Empty Bowl Dinner was held on February 3, 2009 at Owosso High to remember the thousands of children and families that go to bed hungry each night.
In April 2008, 500 blue ribbons were placed in front of the Child Advocacy Center to represent the 500 youth interviewed for cases of suspected Child Sexual Abuse in Shiawassee County since 2005. Blue ribbons and blue pinwheels were provided to area businesses, students and educators. The Cone Zone and OMS Student Council held a "blue ice cream sales" event.
In April 2009, we will be unveiling our Donor Wall during Child Abuse Prevention Month to recognize 25 years of community support! Contact Marcia if you want to have a blue pinwheel "garden" at your school or community building or if you want to help with the blue ribbon campaign to eliminate child abuse & neglect in 2009.
The Council also provides the following Annual Events to educate the community and solicit support: The Kids for Ka$h event at McDonalds; The Health & Human Services Annual Conference; Memorial Healthcare's Biggest Baby Shower; The Early Childhood and Parenting Conference; and the Curwood Festival.
